   Practice rounds for the U-S Open golf tournament are set to begin today
in Torrey Pines. Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the
coastal bluff-top course for the first round of the four-round tournament on
Thursday to watch San Diegan Phil Mickelson ... Tiger Woods and Adam Scott tee
off. This is the first time the U-S Open has been held in San Diego in the
tournament's 108-year history.

   Attorneys for a Lakeside man facing retrial on murder charges for
allegedly running down and killing two 9-year-old girls are expected to ask a
judge to dismiss the case today or move it because of pretrial publicity.
Richard Allen Clements the 2nd was convicted in 19-99 but a judge vacated the
conviction in 2005 after the California Supreme Court overturned the legal
theory under which Clements was found guilty.

   San Diego police are searching today for an armed burglar who broke into
a 20-year-old woman's home and sexually assaulted her before fleeing with
some of her belongings. The attack occurred around 1-30 Friday afternoon at an
apartment complex near San Diego State University. Police say the woman came
home to find the man already inside her apartment and was bound and blindfolded
before being assaulted.

   The San Diego City Council will consider today restoring nearly half of
the 127 jobs eliminated under Mayor Jerry Sanders' proposed 3-point-3 billion
dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Most of the proposed job cuts
involve positions at the city's parks ... recreation facilities and libraries.
The City Council has until June 20th to approve the budget.
