   With just under 54 percent of the vote ... San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders
is headed for a second term today ... despite having been greatly outspent.
Challenger Steve Francis spent more than 4 million dollars on his campaign ...
compared to Sanders' 426 thousand dollars.  Francis also lost to Sanders in a
special election in 2005 to replace Dick Murphy.

   A 73-year-old man died today in a San Carlos house fire that also sent
the man's wife to the hospital. Authorities say the fire began around midnight
and burned for about an hour in the 87-hundred block of Verlane Drive. The
cause is under investigation. The man's name has yet to be released.

   An Escondido nursing home is facing a wrongful-death lawsuit today. The
son of Maria Cobian alleges that the facility failed to supervise and ensure
the safety of the 94-year-old dementia patient. She was hit by a car early
Thanksgiving morning after she wandered away from Palomar Heights Care Center.
The facility is fighting a 100-thousand-dollar fine issued by the California
Department of Public Health over the death. It's the second time since 2006
that the facility has been fined over a resident's death.

   A former student who was convicted of making false bomb threats that
disrupted activities at Palomar College last fall is scheduled to be sentenced
this morning in Vista. Thirty-seven-year-old William Morris Hall was convicted
May 7th of six felony counts related to two false bomb threats in September ...
and a third in October.

   It'll be cloudy today in coastal and valley areas ... with wind gusts up
to 25 miles per hour and patchy morning fog and drizzle. Expect sunny skies
today over the mountains and deserts ... with wind gusts up to 40 miles per
hour. A coastal flood advisory is in effect until 11 o'clock tonight ... and a
wind advisory is in effect for mountains and desert areas until 3 o'clock
tomorrow morning. Tonight ... expect cloudy skies in coastal and valley areas
... and clear skies over the mountains and deserts ... with wind gusts up to 55
miles per hour. Highs today will be 60 to 65 degrees near the coast ... 63 to
68 inland ... 65 to 70 in the valleys ... 65 to 75 in the mountains and 86 to
91 in the deserts.
