8:30 a.m. CIVIC CENTER - A preliminary hearing is scheduled to
continue for former Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez, who is charged
with misappropriation of public funds and other counts. Also charged are former
employee Mark McNeil and tax consultant Ramin Salari. A state appeals court
panel ordered the case against the three to be dismissed, ruling that
prosecutors did not file legal paperwork in a timely fashion after the three

8:30 a.m. CIVIC CENTER - A pretrial hearing is scheduled for David
Martinez, who is charged in the shooting death of a Pomona police SWAT officer
who was helping to serve a warrant at a home in San Gabriel. The first jury to
hear the case against Martinez acquitted him of first-degree murder, but
deadlocked on a second-degree murder charge. Jurors in his retrial acquitted
him of second-degree murder, but deadlocked on voluntary manslaughter and

Garcia and Jessica Barkley, who are charged in the shooting death of a 40-year-

Carlos Amador, a man who pleaded guilty to the murders of four people in
their Hollywood Hills home and testified against two other men who were
sentenced to death. A state appeals court panel ordered the lower court to hold
an evidentiary hearing to determine whether to vacate Amador's murder
conviction as a result of a change in state law that affects defendants in some

Mount, who is charged in connection with an alleged hit-and-run crash that

injured a woman who was steering the vehicle. He is charged with one felony
count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run
driving resulting in death or serious injury to another person and driving
under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of another DUI

Andrew Rudnicki's lawsuit against Farmers Insurance. Rudnicki maintained he was
fired after 37 years of service as a staff attorney after he was wrongfully
blamed for the adverse outcome of a gender inequity case filed against the
insurer. A jury awarded him $5.4 million in compensatory damages and $150
million in punitive damages, but Rudnicki later accepted a reduced award of

9 a.m. CIVIC CENTER - Testimony is scheduled to begin in the trial of
Shellie Cooke's lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles. Cooke, then a city
librarian, alleges she was wrongfully shot and wounded in the left hip by LAPD
officers who did not follow department procedure after they went to her Silver
Lake home in 2017. Her mother had called the police to report that her
daughter, who had problems with alcohol, was displaying abnormal behavior.
Officers say the woman was holding a rifle that turned out to be unloaded. The

lawsuit brought by the parents of a Black student at St. Bernard Catholic High
School against the Playa del Rey learning institution. The suit alleges other
students repeatedly bullied and sexually harassed the boy and called him the
``N-word.'' The suit further alleges the boy's parents, who had taken their son
out of another school because he was harassed there, were assured by St.

lawyer Sarah O. Clifton's lawsuit against the ACLU of Southern California.

Department's Special Victims Bureau, the Los Angeles Police Department, and

are investigating a series of sexual assaults involving female victims
throughout Los Angeles County. There have been 13 victims identified and four
of them are minors. In some cases, the suspect, Michael Watson Jr., 21, is

Processing and Distribution Center to highlight facility space upgrades and new
processing equipment. Plant Manager Daniel Hirai and his team will share
information on the sorting machines, and personnel will also be available for
