MORENO VALLEY (CNS) - An anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat to a
Moreno Valley high school today, prompting a lockdown and investigation
that ultimately confirmed that the call was bogus.
According to the Val Verde Unified School District Police Department,
shortly after 10 a.m., an unknown party contacted the front desk clerk at the
Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Moreno Valley station, telling the
clerk that explosives had been planted at Rancho Verde High School on Lasselle
Street.
Both VVUSD police officers and sheriff's deputies went to the campus
and initiated an investigation, placing the school on lockdown.
Sheriff's bomb squad deputies soon scoured the campus, along with a
VVUSD K-9 unit, searching for anything suspicious, but ``no explosives were
located,'' according to VVUSD spokesman Mark Clark.
``At approximately 12:03 p.m., the school was deemed safe, and the
lockdown was lifted,'' he said. ``There is no credible threat at this time.''
Anyone with information about the threat was asked to contact VVUSD
police at 951-490-4681.
