4:30 a.m. SAN DIEGO - Members of the media are invited to ``media
morning'' for a sneak peek of the December Nights festivities, which begin
later in the day. Media morning will feature samples of the food, drinks and
entertainment offered at December Nights, along with highlights of new features
this year. Representatives will be on hand to discuss mobility options to visit
the park, free parking and safety procedures. Members of the media are

8 a.m. SAN DIEGO - The United States Tennis Association National 40
Hard Court Championships will continue at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. In
Wednesday's action, after a first-round bye, five-time defending women's
singles champion and top seed Hiromi Sasano of San Diego began her title
defense at the National 40 Hard Court Championships by defeating Quynh Le of
Irvine, 6-2, 6-3. The tournament will continue through Sunday. La Jolla Beach &

James Smith, who is accused in a drive-by shooting in Mountain View that killed

Villegas, who is accused of fatally shooting a 79-year-old man during a

10 a.m. SAN DIEGO - San Diego International Airport and Japan Airlines
will celebrate a decade of nonstop service to Tokyo with guest speeches, a
JAL cockpit crew welcome announcement and JAL flight JL065 departure at 11:45
a.m. San Diego International Airport, Terminal 2, Gate 48 (post-security), 3835
North Harbor Drive. This event requires news crews to go through TSA security

10:30 a.m. SAN DIEGO - The Metropolitan Transit System will host a
signing ceremony to commemorate the partnership with the Province of Mendoza,
Argentina, for the donation of up to 39 MTS second generation trolleys. The
donated trolleys will become a part of the Metrotranvia Mendoza light rail
fleet. Government officials from Mendoza and MTS will be in attendance. MTS -

defendants charged in an alleged food benefits fraud scheme run out of a

3 p.m. SAN DIEGO - The city of San Diego will host December Nights, a
free holiday festival in Balboa Park. The family friendly event brings San
Diegans together to enjoy the lights, the sounds, the attractions and the food.
The park will transform into a winter wonderland with more than 1,000
performers on four stages, various activities throughout the park and more than
120 food and retail vendors. Some museums will offer complimentary evening
admission and other features include the Gator by the Bay stage and dance
floor, traditional International Spirits Garden and a new Plaza de Panama beer
and cocktail garden. Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilman Stephen Whitburn will
kick off the event by lighting the tree at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion at 6

5 p.m. CAMPO - The North Pole Limited will return to celebrate the
holiday season. Once onboard the North Pole Limited, Santa's elves will sing
Christmas carols, read a popular Christmas story to the children and pass out
cookies and hot chocolate to all passengers. The North Pole Limited will stop
at Santa's Workshop to pick up Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will visit with
passengers on the train on the way back to the Campo Depot. The train ride
lasts for approximately 90 minutes depending on the number of passengers Santa
needs to visit. Event runs Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 17. 750 Depot St.

6 p.m. CORONADO - The city of Coronado's holiday parade and tree
lighting event will begin. The parade runs from the Ferry Landing, down Orange
Avenue, to the Hotel del Coronado. The tree lighting will take place in Rotary

6 p.m. LEMON GROVE - The city of Lemon Grove will hold its 25th annual
community bonfire at Treganza Park, 3200 Main St. Event will feature a
community aerial photo at 6:10 p.m. and an ugly sweater contest at 7 p.m.
